Children increasingly grow up in urban environments. More than half of the world population including more than one billion children are presently living in the cities. It is estimated until 2030, 6 out of every 10 city dwellers will be younger than 18 years old, therefore in the urban areas with suitable planning, many children enjoy urban life benefits and in the cities which do not have such facilities, children will be deprived of them. Urban planners and programmers shall make sure that children are freely able to move in their neighborhood, therefore it is necessary to design children-friendly and safe cities together with sense of responsibility and access to public space for children especially vulnerable ones. Basically whatever children need in a city is like other individuals such as:

Safe and clean streets, public locations, protected sidewalks with bicycle lanes, access to safe space, pleasant, public and green space, clean air for breathing, long-term creational chances and safety at homes and outside homes.

Safe, comprehensive and flexible cities and human towns for everyone are the rights of every citizen and child. Putting children in the heart of urban planning and design will lead to a lovely, resilient, safe and comprehensive urban development. We will be able to fulfill this goal by changing some space and references such as streets; imagine a network of public space is located close to homes; how can we provide social programs to maintain spaces active, to entertain and invite children and families? Will we be able to create multi-purpose and efficient goals in order people get excited to fulfill them?

How can we consider walking and cycling as attractive and usable options? Children shall participate and be beneficiary at urban planning processes. We will be able to create better and healthier cities for ourselves through their partnership in design and construction of cities. Specifically availability of safe and widespread public and green space requires a world that put public space in the center of resilient development. Considering the new urban guidelines and having commitment to make this statement practical “Let’s not to move on anybody”, districts municipalities shall invest in their public space by using an integrated and comprehensive approach and to make sure in this regard. As a result studies center of the Kids’ utopia has taken action to hold the symposium of Kids’ utopia with cooperation and partnership of Faculty of Architecture and Urban Development of Iran University of Science and Technology, Iran Health Social Responsibility Institute, Iran Scientific Architecture and Urban Development Association and Guild Employer Association of Designing and Architecture of Tehran aiming at increasing scientific and technical knowledge of beneficiaries and decision makers, evaluation and study of scientific, research and university projects, providing required capacity for projects with approach of utilization and investment in private sector and explaining and surveying a children-friendly city. While appreciating main supporters of the symposium, we hereby invite all scientific and specialized centers, fans, experts, professors, students, engineers and researchers to participate in this event.
